Welcome to the 2015 fantasy football season. As we approach opening day and drafts come together, it is important to consider a strategy and a plan of action to compete and win this year’s league championship.
First let us look at the running back position. While it has long been established that running backs dominate first round picks, this year may be the exception, if only because of the risks associated. Consider Le’Veon Bell is suspended, Jamaal Charles cannot stay healthy, Eddy Lacy’s team loves to pass the football, CJ Anderson is in a committee, and Adrian Peterson may never be the same. There are definite risks there. It may be safer to draft a stud receiver or tight end in the first round, unless you have a top 3 pick. There should be plenty of good running backs in rounds 4 or 5. Pick RBs from teams that like to control the ball, like Cleveland, Buffalo, San Francisco, Seattle, Minnesota, Kansas City, and others.
Tight end is an easy one. Getting Gronk in the first round provides the production of an extra #1 receiver every week. After that there is no tight end drafted until late.
The receivers will be key to success this year. Many receivers from last year’s amazing rookie crop will be developing into all-pros. When drafting WRs stay away from offenses that do not pass the ball very much. That includes Jacksonville, Seattle, Minnesota, San Francisco, and others who like to control the ball and the clock. The good news is that there are more teams who absolutely love to pass the ball, including Denver, New England, Dallas, New Orleans, Miami, Detroit, San Diego, and others. There will be a limited number of top-tier receivers, so pick them early and wait until round 4 to draft your running backs or round 5 if you get Gronk. There will be plenty of sleepers at running back.
The quarter backs are also available late in the draft. Romo, Brady, Tannehill, Rivers and Stafford are all great options who will hold their own against Manning or Rogers. So wait until you have 3 WRs and 2 RBs to draft the QB this year.
Play the defense going up against Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Cleveland or Oakland. Don’t waste a draft pick on defense.
That’s it for now. Good luck this year!
